The head of the US Federal Reserve, Jerome Powell, appealed to the House of Representatives with a statement that the country urgently needs to issue a digital dollar on the blockchain (national cryptocurrency), which will be controlled by the state, specifically the Central Bank, and not allow private companies that are not responsible for this process for creating public goods. That is why the public may oppose participating in the money issue of the business.
Powell also stressed that you need to understand this asset well so that “one day you do not wake up with the realization that the dollar is no longer the world reserve currency, because we have missed the technological transition.”
The US Federal Reserve announced the creation of the digital dollar in February 2020. The impetus for the development of this direction was the Facebook statement on the development of the Libra payment system.
